The Top 10 Worst Moments in FB 2010

This list is purely according to me. It doesn't have to make sense to YOU because in my world it works. The order is purely based on what I thought of first.

1. Pete Carroll shocking the 'SC Nation and leaving USC for Seattle.
I was sitting at the bar in North Scottsdale's Sapporro's, and SC broke the news that it was rumored Pete was jumping shift. Surely you are jesting me ESPN. I don't want to believe this shit. Note to any guy who tries to hit on me- if my eyes are glued to ESPN, and I'm not a happy camper- don't bother.

2. The NCCA screwing over USC.
I won't even go there. The heading says it all. Keep this in mind though "lack of institutional control"

3. The NCAA NOT screwing over Ohio State
I love my Ohio State friends. I really do, but this was not cool. How can USC get sanctioned, and be told they had "lack of institutional control" and OSU still gets penalized, but players who are NOT ELIGIBLE get to play in a bowl game?? A bowl game OSU would have lost if those players were not allowed to play.

4. Scam Newton
Auburn AD says Cecil Newton would not be at game. Cecil Newton was on field AFTER the game. Cecil did not get tickets to the game from Auburn. But who did Cecil get field passes from?

5. The Cardinals Cutting Matt Leinart
Sure Matt was a little outspoken, and he had his off-field moments, but give the guy a chance. You let him go, for DA and Max Hall? You play a FOURTH STRING QB at the end of the season???? Come on Arizona. Really?

6. The Arizona Cardinals Season
The curse of the quarterback? I'm not sure what happened here, but I was not born a Cardinals fan. Actually, after Biakabutuka stopped playing in the NFL, I didn't even HAVE an NFL team. The Cardinals drafted ML right after I found out I was moving to AZ. After 9 years in ATL, I couldn't stand the Falcons, so I was happy to live in a state where I could fully support my football team. The first season was brutal, I still cheered them on. I'm rambling. I'll shut up. Point is- this season was disappointing. The Cardinals need to keep Fitzgerald and get an amazeballs QB. No more repeats of this season.

7. USC losing 2 games by less than two points each...back-to-back
Washington. Stanford. The same way. Seriously? It sucked.

8. Brett Favre
He is on here purely because he gives me the heebie jeebies.

9. The NCAA & NFL making up rules as they go
It is kind of mentioned about, but the rules are the rules. You can't let one team (or player) get away with something and then penalize another team (or player) for the same thing. Don't we learn the fairness thing in Kindergarten???

10. The Bowl Boycott
Don't get me wrong. I am BEYOND happy I stuck by USCPSYCHO and a few others to take a stance. But, I wish it didn't happen. Bowl season is supposed to be my HAPPY TIME of year. Hi- football on TV almost EVERY DAY. However, because of many things listed above, I couldn't go through with watching. Plus, it isn't really bowl season unless USC is on the field.

Glitz' Guy of the Week...for real this time ;)

Yeah. Yeah. I know. Excuses. Excuses. Blah. Blah.

Today's Guy of the Week is...well not even human. He is just THAT good.
You may have heard of a little player known as Troy Polamalu, but have you head of Troy's hair?!

Troy's hair is pretty epic, which makes Troy even more epic. That being said, follow Troy's Hair on twitter (@troyshair).

Last year, I mentioned on here that Riley Cooper had the prettiest hair in college football- well now Riley is in the NFL (plays for the Eagles) and he cannot compete with @troyshair. MVH in the NFL (despite Riley's Prince Charming hair) also gets awarded to Troy's hair.

Speaking of hair....check this out :) http://bit.ly/iacRYj

Faith and Football

I feel like I wrote a similar post last year, but I can't help it. Both faith and football are a HUGE part of my life.

So, this year, as Coach Dad and I are doing our weekly picks for our Pick 'Em league and he is baffled as to why I have picked the Steelers EVERY single week. My response is simple. I have FAITH in them. Well, most of them anyway.

It is really simple. I find it counter-productive to pray for the health and safety of a player, and then pick his team to lose. That is just plain silly.

So Coach Dad, there is my REAL reason for picking the Steelers- prayer.

PS: I clearly also ALWAYS pick the Cardinals, because despite the drama, they are my #1 NFL team.

The Season(s) So Far...

The Cardinals (and the NFL)

I must say I am pretty disappointed in the Cardinals. Especially DA. Am I going to admit that Matty L was being a diva/drama queen? Possibly. Coach Dad always taught me to think before I speak. Something that I try to adhere to- that being said, Matty should tried to do the same. I am not saying it wasn't difficult for him, but if we could rewind back to August, when everything went nuts, and hit pause. Maybe Matty would have a starting job right now. Side note: If Matt EVER played as badly as DA has been playing, he would have been benched within a few plays. Lesson learned? We'll just have to wait and see.

Overall I am just unimpressed and unmotivated with the NFL. It isn't because the Cards have lost two game back to back. Because every week, I do my picks, I ALWAYS pick the Cardinals. I think it just stems from the whole Matty L thing, and then just being overly busy in general. While the Cards can very well go to the Super Bowl and win, and USC cannot play in the post-season, the college game is way more appealing.

USC Trojans
One.Point.Loss. What the heck?
That can pretty much sum up last night. Second year straight losing to Washington. A team that we beat 56-0 in 2008. I can't explain it. Is it the defense? Some may argue yes. The offense? Again, some may argue yes. Regardless, these boys are playing with heart. A lot of them could have said "Peace Out Bitches!" and quit the team when sanctions hit, but the kids are great. I am proud of them...even the ones that miss extra points & field goals, fumble the ball, throw interceptions, etc. I. LOVE. THEM. Fight ON!

Draft Day 2010

Day 1 of the draft pretty much sucked. I don't like this new concept, but it did get me thinking.

I'm also a little pissed that nobody from SC got drafted. Part of me felt that Pete OWED it to us. I know that sounds crazy, but it's just how I feel.

These players are all pretty young, and there are several I would love to interview so here is my current DREAM interview list & why...

Actually...let's see if you guys can guess 5 players/coaches that would make my cut ;)

Here is a throwback from the 2006 Draft, when my Cards drafted TWO Trojans

Draft DAy 2010

Is on Thursday April 22...that really puts a dent in my plans.

My options are coming home and live blogging, or going to the Cardinals Draft Day Party :)

Will keep you guys posted!

Kurt

The boys at work know me oh so well.

Kurt Warner retired which means, more than likely, Bretty Boy will follow suit.

Convo #1:
Me: Oh man Kurt-
Male Coworker 1: Warner retired
Me: Yes! Do you know what that means?
Male Coworker 1: That when Brett Favre retires and unretires the Cards are going to hire him?
Me: Um no. Leinart gets to start. IF The Cards hired Brett, I'd quit the team

Convo #2
Male Coworker #2 (aka a HUGE lakers fan): Hey Glitz. Did you hear Kurt retired and the Cards are hiring Brett!
Me: Really? Is that what you heard? 'Cause I heard that Kobe and Lamar are leaving LA for the Sun
Male Coworker #2: *walks off*

Funny how they know me oh so well.

I'm sad that Kurt is retiring, but I'm glad that Matt will get the playing time he deserves. He's toned down the partying, and he's working hard.

As long as he stays focused, I think Matt will be an awesome NFL QB. They don't just handout Heisman trophies to mediocre players...

Best of luck in the future KW. God Bless.

Teardrops on my guitar...

I've kinda being reacting a little irrationally (re: PC) lately. While I haven't been as extreme as others taking it out on MG, I have been sad and confused. I really don't even have a reason to be sad and confuse. USC and Pete Carroll don't owe me anything.

At 16, I was a Senior in HS. Leaving in Georgia, my top two choices for college where University of Missouri and the University of Southern California.

That fall, I was more wrapped up into high school football, and figuring out where I would be next year. #1 thing on my list- a school with a football program and #2- a school with a GREAT journalism department.

Missouri was leading USC. From September-October I was pretty confident that I'd be going to middle of nowhere Columbia the following fall.

I even remember taking a trip up to Charlotte for a Panthers game, where a former player of Coach Dad's was teasing me about the Tigers. (He was a Wolverine). But something changed my friends. In mid-October. It was October 19th (good thing I have my journals from hs), I met a person who change my mind and my life. The woman's name was Ruthie- she was interviewing me for admission to USC. To quote the 16 year old me "The interview was awesome! I hope I can go to USC." I'd be lying to you if I told you I saw the loss to Stanford the night before. The 32-30 loss mind you...

I was living in SEC country. Pac-10 games were far and few between, and it was a Wednesday game- plus a school night.

That night all I wanted, and all I talked about was USC. Life happens people. I am a firm believer in "everything happens for a reason." I ended up not going to USC the following fall, but a small school that lacked #1 & #2 on my musts lists. A school that gave me opportunities to meet and interview some amazing musicians, and make friends that would last a lifetime. That's what college is about...but one thing was for sure...I was NOT going to settle for adopting an SEC team.

I HAD to have a college football team, and if I couldn't have USC, well USC could have me as a fan. So for me, the first football season as a USC fan, was Pete Carroll's as a coach. I have NEVER known a USC without Pete Carroll.

There are many moments of USC football that I love rewatching, and some moments that I could do without, but there will aways be USC football, and I will always have my Trojan fam that has so kindly accepted me (you guys know who you are).

I wish Coach Carroll all the best in Seattle, and wait with intrigue what awaits Trojan Nation in Los Angeles.

Much love- Glitz

Down.

Down. I feel blue.

I shouldn't let a shitty (sorry dad) season get to me, but I have. Just when I think it can't get any worse, it does. A third loss. To Stanford. WTF.

But, these losses, make you realize that your team isn't always going to be #1. In USC's case the BCS will never let us be #1, but you get where I am going with it. I blogged about expectations at some point last summer, and I think that has helped me process the losses, but it's still frustrating.

Football used to excite me, with every W, I would get excited about the following weeks conquest, but now, I am somber and I just wait it out. It's like the tornado watches when I lived in Atlanta. We would watch- eyes glued to the TV waiting to see if a storm was spotted our way. The anxiety of the unknown.

But what sucks even more is, that my love for college football, has always surpassed that of NFL. There is just this different level of excitement for me..

Anyway, in this "down" time, I have neglected my Cardinals. The Cardinals who won yesterday, making the first Cardinals team since 1975 (I think this is correct) to win 5 consecutive away games. Congrats!!!! I also think it might be the first time in history that this late in the season, the Cardinals have the same record as USC.

Anyway, all this being said, I am going to make a better effort to blog. Win or Lose.

Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Vent Fest....

Where do I even start? USC playing sub-par football? The refs screwing over many teams? Thank goodness I'm not a coach or I'd get fined for saying that ;)

The list can go on and on, but I will start with this. Sure USC has been playing sub-par football, but how can LSU and I will quote my good ole twitter bud @uscpsycho "LSU is only team in top 15 that hasn't beat a ranked team. Plus they have 2 losses. So why are they #9? Seriously...???"
Granted both teams have 2 losses, but USC has beat THREE ranked teams, lost one game to a team that was unranked and the 2nd loss was to a top ten team....explain that one to me?

I don't even think I can start on the refs. Not just the stupid calls they make against USC, but the calls they don't make when it comes to other teams...like UF. Calls that could have caused outcomes in games...sure the refs get penalized, but does that help Arkansas? Who could have WON that game..

Oh. ASU fans. Learn some respect, and learn to spell. Granted, I am not the biggest fan of Corp (3rd string USC QB) but I am not mean about it. At last nights USC v ASU game (if you want to call it that) some kid has a sign that said:

Anybody
But
Cullivan

Now I don't know if they were trying to be funny and reference Couples Retreat, but still..

Let's move on to my Cardinals. Surprisingly enough, other than Leinart's interception, there's no complaints there... :)

Had to get that off my chest, now I can enter the week with some serenity and a ton of hope.

Glitz' Guy of the Week

I keep coming back to my USC boys on this topic, and I cannot help it. So, I get home on Monday, and after being without ESPN for a few days, I see all this "drama" surrounding a hot dog and Mark Sanchez.

What's the big deal?? It's a hot dog, and don't you WANT your players to be energized?? Who wants a player who feels lightheaded and dizzy because he hasn't eaten.

Hot dog aside, I was never the biggest Sanchez supporter. There is not sugarcoating it. You can probably go back on this blog, and see the times when I criticized him.

As happy as I am now with Barkley, I really thought Sanchez should finish out at 'SC. Well, he didn't listen to me (hehe) and he is making quite a name for himself in the NFL.

So that being said, Mark Sanchez has the honor of being Glitz' Guy of the Week.

Glitz' Guy of the Week

Another great week of football (minus the USC break). This was a sad one, but it goes out to a guy who had to be on the field Sunday with a heavy heart.

Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Coordinator coached on Sunday, only a few days after his wife Vikki passed away. The Bengals won the football game, and Coach Zimmer was awarded the game ball.

Coach Zimmer has Pac 10 ties, as he coached at Washingston State from 1989-1993.

Glitz' Guy of the Week

I am taking a different approach this week and I am honoring the NFL as a whole for their "Pink Campaign."

Here is some more information about Breast Cancer:
 http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/About-Breast-Cancer/

Also, if you are going to the Cardinals game this Sunday, please wear PINK and support Larry Fitzgerald's (@lfitzgerald11 on twitter) PINK-OUT movement! In addition, purchase a LArry Fitzgerald gift card at Cold Stone Creamery & 5% of the total value (I think it's per gift card) will go to breast cancer research. While you are at Cold Stone, Don't forget to try-out "Heaven Eleven" a pink signature ice cream.

The Football-session

People tend to ask me how does a Greek girl from Montreal love football as much as I do..

I always answer it's part hereditary and part destiny.

Let's start with destiny. It's pretty simple really. I was born on November 22.

Tail end of college regular season, about 3/4 of the way through regular NFL season.

Canadian football- my birthday was almost always around the Cegep Bol D'Or and CFL playoffs are  also in late November.

So I was born to love the sport.
Many of my earliest memories took place on the football field. My dad coached from before the time I was born, and coached up until I was about ten..

So that makes sense right? Here is where hereditariness (I made that word up) kicks in.

I come from a pretty traditional Greek family, and being the first born daughter, I was named after my paternal grandmother (aka Yiayia).

Yiayia had a son who coached football (aka Coach Dad) and a son who played football (holler at Uncle Pea).

One of my absolute memories actually took place at one of my uncle's games, and it involved my sweet little yiayia taking me out of Greek school early so I can go watch. I must have been about 8 or 9, and it was not ideal football weather- it was cold and rainy, and just dreary.
Despite our team having home-field advantage,  the refs were total jerks that day. (Keep in mind this is over 15 years ago). So I'm getting annoyed, and my yiayia is screaming "Stupid Refs" in her broken English, and that's when I knew it was ok to be vocal.

I actually love that my yiayia and papou (grandpa) come visit around Christmas because there is always football on, and I am slowly teaching her the wonders of my favorite team. She calls out the "stupid refs" quicker than I do sometimes! And you better believe that anytime I get a little heated over a game, I pull the "It's hereditary!" card.

My sister may have gotten the dancing gene, but I most def got the football gene, and I am okay with that :)

Sep 23, 2009

uh oh

I started this blog because I absolutly 100% LOVE football. Like seriously LOVE it. I get into disagreements over football, and I can be a little overly passionate...

That being said, twitter was the best invention EVER when it comes to me blogging about football.

Why? Well there are so many great players that are using twitter, and sparking GREAT post ideas.

It started with Nine-O and his great Tweets, and then my Cali Redwoods boys!

Can't leave out @Trojan81's tweet that sparked my Confessions... post a few days ago.

I'm rambling. Sorry. Anyway, you will be seeing a lot more love & thanks to players who are inspiring me to write...like sensei Mike Williams (twinjas for life)

If you are not following @ddockett on twitter.....you SHOULD be!

Hank Baskett...

I must say. I was pretty bummed when I read that Hank Baskett was cut from the Eagles so Mr. Vick could be "activated."

This morning I read that Hank signed with the Colts.

Good stuff!
