WTF?

Saturday Night. I think that sums it up nicely.

the prettiest hair in college football...

I cannot believe I am doing this. I am praying one of my Pac 10 readers finds a Pac 1o player to replace this, but I cannot help it...

Riley Cooper, a Gator, has the prettiest hair in college football. Saturday night, I was going back and forth between the fight for #2 in the Pac 10 and the game that most people dubbed "the REAL National Championship Game" It pained me really, but the Pac 10 game, well I am still not over it so I need to talk about Cooper's pretty hair ;) There was a moment during the game, where Cooper was on the sideline (I think talking to UM) and he pulls off his helmet and his hair is just so perfect and flowy. Joshua (of Bumpshack fame) compared to to the scene in Shrek when Prince Charming takes off his helmet. I totally agreed.

So ladies and gent...unless you can find me a Pac 10 player with prettier hair, the 'Glitz Prettiest Hair in CFB Award' goes to Mr. Riley Cooper.

Down.

Down. I feel blue.

I shouldn't let a shitty (sorry dad) season get to me, but I have. Just when I think it can't get any worse, it does. A third loss. To Stanford. WTF.

But, these losses, make you realize that your team isn't always going to be #1. In USC's case the BCS will never let us be #1, but you get where I am going with it. I blogged about expectations at some point last summer, and I think that has helped me process the losses, but it's still frustrating.

Football used to excite me, with every W, I would get excited about the following weeks conquest, but now, I am somber and I just wait it out. It's like the tornado watches when I lived in Atlanta. We would watch- eyes glued to the TV waiting to see if a storm was spotted our way. The anxiety of the unknown.

But what sucks even more is, that my love for college football, has always surpassed that of NFL. There is just this different level of excitement for me..

Anyway, in this "down" time, I have neglected my Cardinals. The Cardinals who won yesterday, making the first Cardinals team since 1975 (I think this is correct) to win 5 consecutive away games. Congrats!!!! I also think it might be the first time in history that this late in the season, the Cardinals have the same record as USC.

Anyway, all this being said, I am going to make a better effort to blog. Win or Lose.

Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Vent Fest....

Where do I even start? USC playing sub-par football? The refs screwing over many teams? Thank goodness I'm not a coach or I'd get fined for saying that ;)

The list can go on and on, but I will start with this. Sure USC has been playing sub-par football, but how can LSU and I will quote my good ole twitter bud @uscpsycho "LSU is only team in top 15 that hasn't beat a ranked team. Plus they have 2 losses. So why are they #9? Seriously...???"
Granted both teams have 2 losses, but USC has beat THREE ranked teams, lost one game to a team that was unranked and the 2nd loss was to a top ten team....explain that one to me?

I don't even think I can start on the refs. Not just the stupid calls they make against USC, but the calls they don't make when it comes to other teams...like UF. Calls that could have caused outcomes in games...sure the refs get penalized, but does that help Arkansas? Who could have WON that game..

Oh. ASU fans. Learn some respect, and learn to spell. Granted, I am not the biggest fan of Corp (3rd string USC QB) but I am not mean about it. At last nights USC v ASU game (if you want to call it that) some kid has a sign that said:

Anybody
But
Cullivan

Now I don't know if they were trying to be funny and reference Couples Retreat, but still..

Let's move on to my Cardinals. Surprisingly enough, other than Leinart's interception, there's no complaints there... :)

Had to get that off my chest, now I can enter the week with some serenity and a ton of hope.

Glitz' Guy of the Week

I keep coming back to my USC boys on this topic, and I cannot help it. So, I get home on Monday, and after being without ESPN for a few days, I see all this "drama" surrounding a hot dog and Mark Sanchez.

What's the big deal?? It's a hot dog, and don't you WANT your players to be energized?? Who wants a player who feels lightheaded and dizzy because he hasn't eaten.

Hot dog aside, I was never the biggest Sanchez supporter. There is not sugarcoating it. You can probably go back on this blog, and see the times when I criticized him.

As happy as I am now with Barkley, I really thought Sanchez should finish out at 'SC. Well, he didn't listen to me (hehe) and he is making quite a name for himself in the NFL.

So that being said, Mark Sanchez has the honor of being Glitz' Guy of the Week.

MIA

Sorry I have been MIA you guys. Things have been hectic, and I was out of town for a few days.

I am back and ready for actions.

My Cards are on fire, as are the Trojans, and this weekend should be a GREAT weekend of football. More on that later...

Glitz' Guy of the Week

Another great week of football (minus the USC break). This was a sad one, but it goes out to a guy who had to be on the field Sunday with a heavy heart.

Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Coordinator coached on Sunday, only a few days after his wife Vikki passed away. The Bengals won the football game, and Coach Zimmer was awarded the game ball.

Coach Zimmer has Pac 10 ties, as he coached at Washingston State from 1989-1993.

sacrifices....

If Perez Hilton, or any big-time blogger were in my shoes tonight, they would not have blown it.

I my friends, blew it. One table. Less than a FOOT away from me...sat a table full of athletes from a certain local sports team. One of those athletes just happened to be a NC with a certain Pac-10 team.

First the tourists appoached them, then slowly every table around us approached them...then the cougars (duh I live in "Cougartown"), and lastly the little kids..which the little kids is totally understandble....

I was observing their reactions to being approaced while they were eating, and realized it was so not worth it.

So like the mature adult that I am, I let them eat in peace.

I could have promoted the blog, but I didn't.

That's it.

Glitz' Guy of the Week

I am taking a different approach this week and I am honoring the NFL as a whole for their "Pink Campaign."

Here is some more information about Breast Cancer:
 http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/About-Breast-Cancer/

Also, if you are going to the Cardinals game this Sunday, please wear PINK and support Larry Fitzgerald's (@lfitzgerald11 on twitter) PINK-OUT movement! In addition, purchase a LArry Fitzgerald gift card at Cold Stone Creamery & 5% of the total value (I think it's per gift card) will go to breast cancer research. While you are at Cold Stone, Don't forget to try-out "Heaven Eleven" a pink signature ice cream.

The Football-session

People tend to ask me how does a Greek girl from Montreal love football as much as I do..

I always answer it's part hereditary and part destiny.

Let's start with destiny. It's pretty simple really. I was born on November 22.

Tail end of college regular season, about 3/4 of the way through regular NFL season.

Canadian football- my birthday was almost always around the Cegep Bol D'Or and CFL playoffs are  also in late November.

So I was born to love the sport.
Many of my earliest memories took place on the football field. My dad coached from before the time I was born, and coached up until I was about ten..

So that makes sense right? Here is where hereditariness (I made that word up) kicks in.

I come from a pretty traditional Greek family, and being the first born daughter, I was named after my paternal grandmother (aka Yiayia).

Yiayia had a son who coached football (aka Coach Dad) and a son who played football (holler at Uncle Pea).

One of my absolute memories actually took place at one of my uncle's games, and it involved my sweet little yiayia taking me out of Greek school early so I can go watch. I must have been about 8 or 9, and it was not ideal football weather- it was cold and rainy, and just dreary.
Despite our team having home-field advantage,  the refs were total jerks that day. (Keep in mind this is over 15 years ago). So I'm getting annoyed, and my yiayia is screaming "Stupid Refs" in her broken English, and that's when I knew it was ok to be vocal.

I actually love that my yiayia and papou (grandpa) come visit around Christmas because there is always football on, and I am slowly teaching her the wonders of my favorite team. She calls out the "stupid refs" quicker than I do sometimes! And you better believe that anytime I get a little heated over a game, I pull the "It's hereditary!" card.

My sister may have gotten the dancing gene, but I most def got the football gene, and I am okay with that :)

A Non-Football Related Post...

In the blogosphere earlier this week, I read that 16,000 words have lost their hyphens!

Being a lover of hyphens (and exclamation points!) this makes me really sad. However, one of the "new words" added this year was: green-collar (hyphen included).

Other words added include: vlog, sock puppet, waterboarding and zip line.

C'est tout!

Glitz' Guy of the Week

Hey everyone! So Monday morning, after an interesting weekend of football, I KNEW who my guy of the week was going to be.  However, in a split-second, life changes.

This week's Guy of the Week is USC Senior Stafon Johnson. On Monday afternoon, Stafon was injured in a weight-lifting accident. After a 7-hour long surgery, he is alert and rested. While he will not be back on the field this year, he is very deserving of this honor.

I know that he will be back at 100% soon enough. My thoughts and prayers will continue to go out to Stafon on his family.

PS: Stafon joined Twitter today to thank everyone for their love & support. You can follow him @stafon13

Glitz Guy of the Week (Fri & Sat)

Sorry guys. Internet was down yesterday, and today has been nuts. Congrats to 'SC for another W. Guy of the week to conclude the week-long blitz. I think I am going to stick with Wednesday for these posts. It seems like a good day, plus this week Wed was a USC guy, who commented back (Thanks Alex!)

Friday: Pete Carroll for being plain old awesome! I don't even know how to summarize this.

Saturday: The BOY Matt Barkley. So glad he played today. This kid is gonna be amazing for the new few years.

Thanks for reading guys! Congrats to 'SC for getting the W tonight!

Glitz' Guy of the Week

It is very funny how things work out with my theme...this afternoon it was announced that an 'SC Alum and current AZ Cardinal (my two faves!) was named as the College Football Athlete of the Decade by Sporting News.

So in congratulations to Matt, and to continue on with the theme of the week...Glitz' Guy of the Week for Thursday is:

                                                                          Matt Leinart

Congrats to the other USC

Unranked USC (South Carolina) defeated Ole Miss (4)

Glitz' Guy of the Week Wed Edition

This is totally a random one, but def worth the honor :)

To a super 'SC Trojan Alex Holmes for being very awesome and teaching me something new about my mac. You are a rockstar! For those of you who might not be aware, Mr. Holmes was on both 'SC teams that won NCs (03, 04)

Fight on!

PS: I am trying to get my 'SC fans all pumped up for Saturday's game. To rally up and support our Trojans! The GOTW for the rest of the week will be a Trojan...past or present.

uh oh

I started this blog because I absolutly 100% LOVE football. Like seriously LOVE it. I get into disagreements over football, and I can be a little overly passionate...

That being said, twitter was the best invention EVER when it comes to me blogging about football.

Why? Well there are so many great players that are using twitter, and sparking GREAT post ideas.

It started with Nine-O and his great Tweets, and then my Cali Redwoods boys!

Can't leave out @Trojan81's tweet that sparked my Confessions... post a few days ago.

I'm rambling. Sorry. Anyway, you will be seeing a lot more love & thanks to players who are inspiring me to write...like sensei Mike Williams (twinjas for life)

Glitz' Guy of the Week Kickoff (Mon & Tues)

I had a draft of this written, ready to publish, and I had a last minute change of heart. I'm also doing Glitz' Guy of the DAY for the rest of the week.

I let out a teaser on Twitter (@glitzandblitz) earlier today, and I am following thru...

There are two guys to kick of this weekly post, one for Monday and one for today.

These two guys are busting their butts off in Casa Grande, AZ getting ready for the upcoming UFL season.

Marcus Fitzgerald (@marcusfitz1) and Shane Boyd (@bambino859) are two GREAT guys.

They not only work hard on the field, but they take the time to make a presence to their fan base, and we def appreciate it!

Make sure that you are all on the lookout when the UFL season starts. The guys are playing on the California Redwoods, and their season starts on October 8th when they play the Las Vegas Locamotives.

If you are on twitter make sure you show them love!!

xoxo- Glitz

PS: Their team owner is Nancy Pelosi's hubby and their head coach none other than the impulsive Dennis Green!

the ohio state curse...

Disclaimer: I apologize ahead of time for any unlady like words that might follow...

The OSU curse. I do not know what happens to USC after the play and beat Ohio State. They get on the field and look like lost puppies.

Seriously, more than two interceptions?! C'mon guys what are you thinking? Aaorn Corp. I am sure the kid is a good kid. I'm sure he is nice, and all that jazz, but yesterday. I just wanted him off the field.

Somebody I was watching the game with made a comment, and I agree. You cannot put on an 'SC uniform and EXPECT to just win. You need to be 100% and work hard.

There was an article that came out last night that Aaron Corp said that he never knew he was going to start. If that is true or not....I don't know, but here is the thing....you should ALWAYS be prepared when you are #2. ALWAYS. Especially when Matt Barkley is injured!!!

I'm going to stop. I don't want to get overly worked up. The game is over. There is no going back and changing the outcome. There is always next week at home.

confessions....true love and broken hearts...(aka mostly rambles)

A few nights ago I stumbled across the Twitter page for former USC Trojan Alex Holmes which in turn led me to the Twitter page of his sister and brother-in-law.

Now if any of you follow USC Football as much as I do. You know where I am going with this. Troy Polamalu

So my Cards followers are probably thinking- this girl is NUTS. Hellooooo the Cards LOST to the Steelers in the Super Bowl. Remember that? Remember the feeling when Larry Fitzgerald scored THAT touchdown?! The feeling of pure euphoria. The THIS IS IT feeling.

So let's pause for a second, and go back to last night. I came across a video of Mr. Polamalu talking about faith. This is what sparked this blog post. It made me remember the torn emotions I was feeling during the Super Bowl.

I have something other than USC in common with Mr. Polamalu. We share the same religion, and watching him play in the Super Bowl (despite me REALLY wanting the Cardinals to win) was inspiring.

A lot of times, our faith is tested. People will doubt us, question us, and really put our faith to a test. Mr. Polamalu, really opened up my eyes that night. After every play (at least the ones when my eyes were open) he crossed himself. This is a professional football player....on the FIELD....AT THE SUPER BOWL. That my friends is true love.

Every now and then, I look thinking back to that night. How it opened my eyes. I LOVE the Cardinals. They are my team, and have been from the minute I moved to Arizona. Okay- it was the minute Leinart got drafted, and I KNEW I was moving to Arizona. They are a team that worked SO hard throughout the season, they pushed themselves, and I now once doubted their ability to make it all the way. In fact, at the beginning of the season I told Coach Dad, that they were going to the Super Bowl, and he chuckled.

I don't even know where I am going with this. I'm pretty emotional. I guess to sum it up, my confession is, that if the Steelers were playing someone other than the Cardinals in the Super Bowl, Troy Polamalu would have been THE deciding factor on what team I would have wanted to win. True Love & Broken Hearts...this goes two ways.

The first is relating it to football. I think you can truly love a team. I love the Cardinals, and I love USC. Loving a team sooo much that when the score is 13-10 with only minutes left in the fourth quarter....you are too sick to your stomach to eat, and the heartbreak....not caused by the team, but it's the feeling that overtakes your body when your team suffers a loss. we (well at least I) set ourselves up for this disappointment. We do it with guys. We build them up and "fall in love" only to get hurt by the tiniest thing in the end.

But most importantly, that Super Bowl restored a true love for my faith. A love that sometimes society can skew...and create a sense of shame, but it's about overcoming that shame. If crossing yourself on the football field during the biggest football game in the world, by one of the best players in the league, than there shouldn't be that fear of doing it in public- on a plane, before a meal...it's embracing that true love, and letting it not lead to heart break...

I wish I could thank him personally, but I can't. So I am thanking him via blog.

xoxo- glitz

PS: Just to make it clear. I am still INCREDIBLY proud of the Cardinals and how they played in the game. I still love them, and I hope they make it all the way again this year! xoxo

The First Weekend

I have not decided if I am doing picks this year. Last year, I did well, and I don't know if I can tarnish my record.

Speaking of records, there was some AMAZING football on alllll weekend long. I was impressed with my boys, but I was also very impressed with another Pac10 team.

UW. They really held their own, and I remember watching them play USC a few years ago. I actually think it was when Booty was out, and Sanchez was playing QB...I was not a bog Sanchez fan then...

Locker was just impressive. It was an intense game for me, and that's how watching them almost beat LSU felt...like that game two years ago.

So my final thoughts on Washington....they will give some teams a run for their money.

Anyway, I am done. No blogging all week (minus nine-o Thursday)

Happy Birthday Cutie!

Mister Matt Barkley turned 19 today. Such a cutie. I am so proud of how he played last weekend.
I hope he enjoyed his day, and all his birthday wishes come true!

Distraction for the Masses

Completely unverifiable, only my professional opinion.....something to consider.
Back in the day, needing to distract the Romans from the challenges of their daily lives....the ruling class pitted the Christians against the Lions in the Coliseum. After a day spent in celebration, drink, and cheer, the crowd, (its thirst for blood satisfied) went home ready to face the coming week. Over the following few days, there was much discussion about the event, leading to speculation of what was to come the following week. In this manner, simple folks created alternate dramas that distracted them from the minutiae of their humble existence.

Its Sunday, 2009 and all across our great nation, fans prepare....is it Patriots against Lions, Cowboys against Redskins, Titans against Giants, you catch the drift here. A very select, exclusive group of owners (so select its easier to get into Congress or the Senate) provide the modern day distraction at unimaginable profit. The sport we grew up playing, is transformed into a multi billion dollar entertainment industry, so tightly controlled, performers/players get fined if their shirt is untucked, socks aren't pulled up or they display the wrong logo on their shoes.
The actors are interchangeable (how many retread coaches? same refs every year?)

Welcome to the NFL.
Help me understand: Next time someone complains what the performers get paid, consider this, would an owner pay a performer $12,000,000 per year if that performer did not enhance PROFITABILITY? Of course not. It is and always has been about making money and putting the best product in the field to ensure the masses buy/spend/ get caught up in the drama. Heroes and villains are created for you to follow (thank you ESPN) and get emotionally involved with. The public persona of our "favorites" in most cases have nothing to do with the real person wearing a jersey and going to work behind a mask. The players are interchangeable parts to a huge business enterprise, no different than the machinery a farmer needs to work the soil that produces a profit when sold. A look behind the finely polished veneer, created by the mega marketing mavens at the NFL, reveals players are routinely treated as commodities. Discarded when no longer of use. Treated like pieces of meat. Built up when they contribute to a win and instantly torn down when they lose.
I say bravo to to the huge salaries and signing bonuses. Grab as much as the owners are prepared to give, Because they will not give you a penny if they are not making four !
Would any of you have an issue with getting paid fair market at work?
No, I didn't think so.

However, this didn't happen. I am proud to announce that starting today, Coach Dad will officially start blogging.

So enjoy! Send feedback, and ladies- you can send coach dad any of your questions!

Welcome to Coach Dad's world

The news is dominated by the return of Vick and Favre. Fans are polarized, the media stirs up a frenzy. Talking heads now have "stories" to fill the endless hours of available through the various formats. Satellite radio, cable, you can't avoid the drama unfolding in Philly and Minneapolis. So I'm thinking, what is the difference between news and PR when it comes to the NFL?
While the devastating effects of our economy continue to unfold, we are bombarded daily with the minutea of irrelevant story lines the NFL would have us follow. Really, does it impact your life what happened yesterday in the training camp of your "favorite" team?

Is football the opium for the masses?
How did the Steelers steal the Super Bowl last year?
Does anyone remember how they beat the Seahawks in their previous Super Bowl win?
Do zebras qualify as reptiles?
These and a barrage of other questions will be answered. Stay tuned

Twitter and Nine-O

I felt the need to post this tonight.

I am in the process of watching a live ustream that is being "hosted" by Arizona Cardinal Nine-O (aka @ddockett)

While there are some guys on the team (cards) that are on Twitter, and there are many guys on th team that love and appreciate their fans.

Nine-O takes the cake. He tells it like it is.

He even reread my birthday message to Fitz.

But seriously. If you are not on Twitter you need to. And if you are. You need to follow @ddockett.

People can be haters, but I tell EVERYONE I know how great nine-o is to his fans. So my dedicated readers. Check him out. Support your Arizona Cardinals. Support the Nine-O Army.

Leave love.

HEAVEN ELEVEN

As you all know from the last season, I am all about good causes. That being said, I encourage all those in AZ to go to ColdStone tomorrow and support Heaven Eleven. (Via Linda & 92nd)

Swing by to meet Larry, support a great cause and eat some pink ice cream ( “Heaven Eleven” includes Cold Stone Creamery’s premium strawberry ice cream, graham cracker pie crust, white chocolate chips, strawberries and bananas.)

Having Expectations...

In last night's Bible Study, I learned something really interesting. Something that everyone can relate to their daily life.

Have no expectations. Expectations lead to disappointments.

It really does relate to everything in life. Especially football. I mean- I go into every football season with very high expectations. Expectations that certain teams will be unstoppable. This is not always the case my friends. I have less than 95 to train myself to have no expectations this football season.

Ponder it.

betting?

I can't remember if I posted my stance on betting at the beginning of the college season, but all week long several people have asked me to bet on Sundays game.

1) I don't like betting on sports

2) Call me slightly superstitious, but I can't bring myself to bet on MY team. That to me is just- I can't do. If I bet in favor of my team- then I feel like I will jinx them....if I bet against my team, I feel like it's bad karma...same like how I felt when USC was playing OSU at the beginning of the season...

So. There is it. Please don't ask me to bet on football :-D Thanks!

3 days away....

Can you believe it?! Three days from the big game. I'm keeping calm. I don't wanna jinx it but I am still sovery excited.

Colls met a Falcons player yesterday in Tampa- he was ging to see ML7 last night. I love my friend. Telling a Falcon to tell a Card that "Glitz from AZ sends her love!"

Who do you guys think will win on Sunday? Cards? Pittsburg? None of the above?

Somebody wants both teams to lose...leave love.

Sanchez....

Silly Sanchez. Shoulda stayed and played at 'SC. One more year coulda meant one more chance to win the Heisman....and National Title....

I know I was not the biggest Sanchez supporter, but I think he should stay one more year. Keep your starting job as long as possible, because chances are your butt will be warming a bench all next season.

227 days til kickoff...

Super Birds. Super Bowl.

I love you boys!!!! I am so proud of the Cardinals!

arizona cardinals....NFC Champs?!

Today-

The Cardinals play the Eagles for the chance of making it to the Super Bowl, and being the NFC Champions.

I am not a banwagon Cardinals fan. I have been a fan from the day I moved the Valley.

Generally speaking, I have only been a TRUE FAN of two NFL Teams. The Carolina Panthers, and the Arizona Cardinals. Both of those choices were based on my "favorite player" at that time.

The Panthers had "Touchdown Tim" and the Cardinals had Matty, but the Cardinals were also my new hometown team.

My love for this team has evovled. It has gone further from that "favorite player"and the hometown team, to loving every second of Cardinals football. Yes I get mad when they don't bring the A-Game. It's only natural, but at the end of the game I think, "It's only one game. There's always next week."

I remember saying early on in Fall 2006, that all the Cardinals would need is two more years. That if they focused, and grew as a tea, that two seasons from now, the Cardinals would be playing in the Super Bowl.

Call me a little overeager, but today they have such a great chance to win. With home field advantage, and an entire state behind them- I really hope they go out and bring it!

1 hr and 24 min til kick off. Go Cards!

The Trojans, The Rose Bowl, and The Harsh Reality...

They come on strong. The beat UVA. They beat OSU. They lost to Oregon State and the whole world laughed in their faces.

But Oregon State went on to surprise people. The argument is always going to be "whatever it's the PAC-10"

But my friends, this "PAC-10" that everyone pokes fun at, is 5-0 with their bowl games....

USC pretty much demolished a team that was #2 for handful of weeks, and was an early favorite for the NC game.

Now...if by chance OSU brings it, and beats Texas.

Where does that leave the Trojans? Sitting pretty at #2?

Regardless, playoff system or not, something needs to be done....
